Better Safe than Sorry – Think about your Backyard!

Naughty puppies, curious toddlers…there can be a several reasons to add extra security measures to your backyard. Putting protections in place can help keep your family safe and put your mind at ease. With just a few simple adjustments, a child-proof backyard is an easy thing to attain.

Pool Safety

While fun, pools can also be dangerous, especially for young toddlers. Drowning is a leading cause of death for children under 4 years old. There are a few steps that you can take to help boost the security around your pool.

  • Install fencing around your pool. Arguably the safest way to ensure your child won’t be in the pool without you is to install pool fencing. Glass pool fencing is a great way to check on your pool quickly for danger, and there are very reasonable prices for glass pool fencing in Adelaide.
  • Get a cover for your pool or jacuzzi. You can invest in heavy tarps to cover up your pool when you aren’t using it. You can tie these into place, so they are difficult to remove or climb underneath to be sure. This has the added bonus of keeping your pool clean from any falling leaves as well!
  • Purchase a pool alarm. These can be installed inside or outside, and just like it sounds, an alarm will go off, alerting you if anyone is in the pool that shouldn’t be.
  • Put flotation devices nearby. Make sure everyone in the family knows where these devices are and encourage your kids to use them around you, so they are comfortable with these devices.

Check Your Plants

For the most part, you likely already know which plants are growing in your garden. Anyone that has taken up gardening, however, knows that some seedlings can get into your backyard without you putting them there! Every month or two, look through the plants in your backyard and make sure nothing toxic is living there that could go into a small and curious mouth.

Grill with Caution

Cooking up a feast outside is a memorable experience for all but be sure to upgrade your safety standards before laying a few burgers on the barbie. Check that your grill is in a safe place where no embers might flare up in the grass. Clean your grill after each use, and check that any equipment you use—propane, matches, lighter—is stored safely away before leaving the grill.
