Spring is approaching, and now it is time to plan the actions to put your lawn in order, correct some flaws and return that lush green. Essential tasks must be performed now so that the lawn has vitality and strength to develop in the two seasons (spring/summer), where we will have the best conditions for growth.

In the winter, the lawns are usually dry and with flaws, generated by lack of water, trampling, and low growth; the best way to revive your lawn is to replenish nutrients to the soil, using chemical and organic fertilizers and taking the opportunity to correct flaws and small basins where water accumulates.

Simple procedures that you can do yourself, bringing life and a beautiful look to your lawn.

Do the pruning and the removal of all the clippings from the lawn; this will help with aeration, disease prevention, visualize the imperfections of the terrain, and be a stimulus for the growth of the lawn.

Observe the ideal pruning height for each variety and never remove more than 30% of the leaf area; this will cause root loss.

It’s time to cover the lawn using a mix with 70% medium sand and 30% substrate suitable for lawns; apply a thin layer over the entire area, always leaving the tips of the leaves uncovered; this procedure will help in leveling, covering areas with little grass cover and gradually providing nutrients to the lawn.

Here’s a tip, never use animal manure and soil, they may be contaminated with weed seeds, which will infest the entire area, and the soil will have difficulty penetrating the lawn.

After fixing the flaws, a good option is to fertilize the lawn to have enough nutrition in this new phase. Still, it is necessary to be very careful with fertilization, which can become an enemy if it is not done correctly. Correction of soil ph. is also essential at this point.

Fertilizers, especially those with a high concentration of nitrogen and potassium, can end up burning the lawn if administered in excess or at the wrong time; uniformity in the application is also fundamental for a good result.

After application, irrigate the treated area with plenty so that all fertilizer dissolves and goes to the soil, avoiding the leaves burning.

Correct the soil pH with lime; this will help in fixing the nutrient that will be applied and will eliminate the aluminum that is toxic to the roots, apply the fertilizer called NPK composed of (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) which is a product easily found in stores landscaping, give preference to compositions balanced between nutrients so that your lawn has a uniform growth.

This procedure, fertilization with NPK, should be repeated twice more throughout the seasons, spring/summer, so that the grass has a good development. It reaches the end of the period in good condition to face the dry season.

Whenever there is any doubt, look for a professional specialized in the area like Kenosha landscaping and lawn care services, they will give essential guidelines and tips for the success of the revitalization of the lawn.
